About

Hiddo Soor International Organization was founded in 2021 as a non-profit with the goal of connecting Somali culture, literature, sports, and arts to the next generation. Located in Minneapolis, Hiddo Soor plans to make lasting change in the local Somali community in order to advance our heritage.

Our Mission

Founded by Mohamed Wardere and Nimcaan Hilaac, Hiddo Soor is an organization that aims to empower immigrant families and youth. By recognizing the social and economic inequities that exist in the local Minnesota community, Hiddo Soor addresses these needs by offering informational sessions, resources, and expertise to individuals and families that need them. In addition, Hiddo Soor also funds, supports, and advocates for initiatives that showcase Somali culture through dance, songs, poetry, and more. Hiddo Soor ultimately plans to foster thriving communities where various disparities are addressed and Somali culture is celebrated, uniting younger and older generations through music, literature, and arts.

Our Vision

Hiddo Soor’s vision includes connecting the younger generations to Somali culture by providing them access to resources they need in order to for them become aware of their heritage and their potential. Our president, Nimcaan Hassan Hilaac, and the co-founders of Hiddo Soor are all familiar with the Somali-American community. That means they recognize how culture, language, and lifestyle differ from person to person. However, they all believe that every Somali should have the chance to connect to their culture, even in America. We plan to do this through unique programs that target youth and other Somalis in Minnesota. By empowering the next generation with their heritage, we hope to build a brighter, more cultural future.
